Case summary
A blue-tinted low-light bedroom camera recorded a woman asleep on her side, facing the lens, on the night of 23 May 2022. Around the six-second mark a dark shape forms on the wall beside the headboard, sharpens into the outline of a head and shoulders, and holds. Two seconds later the feed tears into static. When the picture returns the wall is clear. The footage was kept on a phone for four years before being submitted.

Witness statement
This is from May 2022. I know because the date is on it, and because I remember the week. I'd put the camera in the bedroom because I was living alone for the first time and I wanted to be able to check the flat from work. I never expected to see anything on it. I certainly didn't expect to see anything while I was in the bed.
I didn't find it that night. I found it two days later going through the alerts. There's a shadow next to the bed, on the wall by my head, and it's shaped like a person. Head and shoulders. Leaning in. And then the whole picture breaks up into that static and when it comes back there's nothing there. The clock on the camera was going wrong the whole time as well, jumping around. It never did that before and it never did it after.
I saved it to my phone and I didn't show anyone for a long time. I told one friend, and she said don't post it, so I didn't. I moved out of that flat the following year, for normal reasons, work mostly. I'm sending it now because it's been four years and I've stopped being able to convince myself I imagined it. I watch it maybe once a month. It's always the same.
What investigators found
The camera is a consumer Wi-Fi unit running in low-light colour mode, which gives the footage its blue cast, mounted high on the wall opposite the bed and looking down at an angle. The on-screen timestamp reads 2022-05-23 and a time around 22:38, but it does not run cleanly: across ten seconds it jumps forward and back by several minutes, which points to the unit losing and regaining its time sync or writing a corrupted overlay. The static burst at the eight-second mark is consistent with a dropped or corrupted stream segment, which these units do produce on a weak connection.
The shadow is harder. It forms on the wall to the left of the headboard, in an area lit by the faint light through the curtain on the right. For a shadow to fall there, something would need to stand between that light and the wall, on the near side of the bed, inside the frame. Nothing is visible in that space. The shape has a rounded top and shoulders that slope down and toward the bed. It is not the curtain, which is on the opposite side and does not move. It is not the subject, whose own shadow falls on the pillow and mattress.
We considered whether the glitch and the shadow are one event, a compression artefact that happened to look like a figure just before the stream dropped. Compression artefacts are blocky and follow the grid of the image. This shape has a smooth edge and holds for two seconds before the static, not during it. We cannot explain what cast it.
What happened next
Reveal what happened after the recording
The witness moved out in 2023 and has not been back to the flat. She does not know who lives there now and asked us not to find out. Nothing else was ever recorded on that camera, which she kept running until the day she left. She still has the original file, with the phone's timestamp showing it was saved on 25 May 2022, and has agreed to share that metadata with anyone who seriously wants to examine it. This is the oldest footage in the archive and the only case so far where the camera itself seemed to stop working at the exact moment something was on the wall.
