Case summary
A black-and-white infrared bedroom camera recorded a woman asleep on her back, one arm resting beside her head, while a shadow in the shape of a hand and forearm rose on the wall above the headboard. The fingers are spread and slightly hooked. The shadow holds for roughly a second, softens into a shapeless dark patch, and is gone. Nobody else was in the room, and nothing in it casts a matching shape.
Timeline of events

Witness statement
I've had the camera up since I moved in because the building is old and I wanted to know what the noises were. Most of the time it's the heating. I check the motion clips in the morning with coffee. This one was flagged just after three.
I'm asleep, flat on my back, which I never am. My arm is up by my head. And then on the wall above me there's a hand. A hand and part of an arm, coming down from the top right like someone is reaching over the headboard from behind. The fingers are spread and sort of bent, like a claw. It holds there for a second and then it goes soft, like smoke, and then it's gone.
There is nothing behind that headboard. It's flat against the wall. I moved the bed out that same morning and there's no vent, no gap, no wire. I put the bed back. I still sleep in it because it's the only bedroom, but I turned the camera to face that wall straight on, and I don't watch the clips with coffee any more. I watch them in the afternoon with the blinds open.
What investigators found
The camera is a ceiling-mounted infrared unit with a wide lens, looking down the length of the bed from the foot end. Illumination is flat and even across the wall above the headboard, with a nightstand and a small device with a lit display on the right. The headboard casts a fixed, thin shadow along its top edge that is present in every frame; the hand shape appears above and to the right of that fixed shadow, is darker, sharper and larger, and is not present before the six-second mark.
For a shadow to fall on that part of the wall, an object would need to sit between the IR emitter and the wall, which places it above the bed inside the camera's own field of view. Nothing is visible in that space. The subject's raised arm is in shot throughout and does not move during the event, and its shadow falls on the pillow, not the wall. An insect near the lens would appear under IR as a bright, blurred blob, not a sharp dark shape on a distant surface. There is no mirror or glass on that wall to throw a reflection.
The way the shape ends is the detail we keep returning to. A physical object being withdrawn would slide or shrink. This shape stays in place, loses its edges over about a second, and dissolves. We have no explanation for that behaviour or for the shape itself.
What happened next
Reveal what happened after the recording
The homeowner submitted the clip the same week and asked us to say clearly that she is not looking for attention and does not want visitors. She has since had an electrician check the wiring behind that wall, which is sound, and has confirmed there is no attic access above the bedroom. The camera, now aimed straight at the wall, recorded nine nights of nothing. On the tenth night it logged one motion event at 03:11: the thin fixed shadow along the top of the headboard lengthened by about a hand's width over four seconds and then returned to normal. She sent that clip without comment. This case is the first file in the archive, and to date it is without a satisfactory explanation.
