A ceiling-corner camera covering a small bedroom recorded a woman asleep on her back with one arm across her face. Between the two and five-second marks her whole body moves up the bed toward the headboard, roughly the length of a pillow, without her arms or legs pushing. The pillow is shoved against the headboard as she arrives. At eight seconds the curtain on the far wall swells outward as if from a draught, though the window behind it was closed. A second later the feed tears into static.

Timeline of events

  6. Curtain on the right swells outward from the wall for about a second, then falls back.

  7. Feed tears into horizontal static.

  8. Picture returns. Room unchanged. Subject still.

Witness statement

That camera was my landlord's idea, after a leak, so he could check the ceiling. I did not like it but I forgot about it. I only opened the app because the little red light on it was on when I woke up and it is never on unless it has recorded something.

I am asleep. I have my arm over my eyes because the street light gets in. And then I go up the bed. I do not push. My legs do not push, my hands do not push, I just go, like someone has got me under the arms. You can see the pillow squash into the headboard. I woke up that morning with my head jammed against the wood and a stiff neck and I thought nothing of it.

The curtain is the part that made me move out. The window behind it does not open. It is painted shut. There is no vent on that wall. And it goes out, like a breath, and then the picture goes.

My landlord watched it and did not say anything for a long time, and then he said the last tenant had left a note about the curtains. He would not tell me what it said.

What investigators found

The camera is a wired infrared unit in the ceiling corner opposite the bed, a common landlord installation, giving a wide, steady view of the door, the curtain and the whole bed. The exposure is consistent across the clip and the on-screen clock is partly corrupted in the overlay, which is why the timeline uses a reconstructed time from the surrounding frames.

The movement up the bed is the core of the file. A sleeper can shuffle upward, but shuffling shows in the heels digging in, the elbows bracing and the hips lifting in turn. None of that is present. The heels drag rather than push, the arms stay where they lie, and the head leads. The pillow deforms against the headboard on arrival, so real force was involved. We measured the travel against the mattress seams at roughly thirty centimetres in under two seconds.

The curtain is the second problem. The window behind it is sealed and there is no heating vent, fan or door movement in the clip. A draught strong enough to lift a lined curtain outward would also have moved the lamp cord beside it; it does not move. The static at nine seconds is a dropped stream segment and on its own is unremarkable. It is the third clip in this archive where a signal break follows the event by a few seconds.

What happened next

The tenant gave notice the following week and moved out at the end of the month. The landlord sent us the clip himself with permission from the tenant, and confirmed the camera has been in that corner for six years without recording anything of note. He would not share the previous tenant's note but did say it concerned the curtain and that he had put it down to damp. The room has since been re-let. The new tenant has not been told about the recording and has not reported anything. The camera is still there.
